More About JoyRide Cycling Studio
Burning 500 calories in a single whole-body workout has never been so exhilarating. The terms ?workout? and ?joy? are typically oxymorons, but for the hundreds of riders flocking to the new JoyRide Cycling Studio, Fairfield County?s only fitness boutique dedicated to indoor cycling, their cardiovascular fitness routines just got a huge boost. The brainchild of three Westport women, Rhodie Lorenz, Amy Hochhauser and Debbie Katz, JoyRide offers a holistic, high-voltage approach to group and individual exercise in a modern, specially designed space.?Known for its cult following and dramatic results, indoor cycling has revolutionized the exercise world with expertly choreographed workouts set to heart pumping, motivating music playlists. JoyRide's exclusive training method combines core elements of Pilates with top-notch indoor cycling to maximize cardiovascular benefits and burn calories and fat. Riders improve fitness, posture, and mental acuity with the help of specially trained JoyRide instructors who focus on fluidity and body biomechanics during each interval cycling session.A key component of JoyRide?s 50-minute cardiovascular explosion on the bike is a seven-minute upper body workout using a weighted body bar.? Riders accomplish a high-intensity cardio workout while building muscle."Our riders?get more of a whole body workout than a traditional workout, which translates into optimal results," says Lorenz, co-owner and creative director of JoyRide, as well as the?lead?spinning and Pilates instructor.?"In addition to an upper body workout, we teach proper precision and form on the bike, as well as alignment, which requires core engagement. As a result, developing your core strength helps stabilizes your hips and lower back.? You?re burning calories while you build muscles." ??Each class is specifically choreographed to an ever-changing and diverse playlist of rock and pop, classic and contemporary music. Synchronizing the pedal speed with the music tempo enables riders to connect with music and create rhythm on the bike.JoyRide sets the music bar even higher with its own in-house band, ThirdGear, that plays live music during special spinning classes. There?s nothing more motivating than a live band blasting favorite tunes during a workout. Thanks to an overwhelming positive response and high demand, JoyRiders will be able to experience CycleLive with ThirdGear on a regular basis.?Located in Westport?s newest health and wellness complex at 1200 Post Road East, this 4,100-square foot studio offers 30 bikes in a stadium-tiered setting and a Pilates studio for riders looking to add a holistic regimen to their workouts with additional strength training. JoyRide also offers a popular Spinlates class, which combines 45 minutes of intense cardio on the bike, complemented by 30 minutes of core work on the Pilates mat.?"Combining the two classes is optimal for a total body workout: Spinning creates more strength and cardiovascular endurance while Pilates lengthens and strengthen muscles to increase flexibility and core stability," says Lorenz. "After a spinning class, muscles are more responsive to stretching and therefore, you?ll see quicker results."?JoyRide classes are geared toward all ages, genders and fitness levels - from the seasoned athlete in top shape to someone who has just started or re-entered an exercise program. While riders can go at their own pace, the group fitness environment makes the experience come alive. Enthusiastic riders and instructors infuse an indoor cycling class with energy that takes the experience from just exercise to a fun, high voltage and more challenging pace.?"Riders and instructors feed off of one another?s energy and in turn inspire, motivate, and push one and other to a higher level of fitness and self-discovery," says Lorenz.Bottom line: Working out at JoyRide doesn?t feel like work. Classes at JoyRide get the endorphins flowing, clear the mind, and relieve stress. "My aspiration is that the hour riders spend at JoyRide is the best hour of their day," says Lorenz. "So, it?s gotta be fun!"Be forewarned, however: JoyRide is highly addictive!
